L De uitvoerige titel luidt: ..The present state of Holland or a des
cription of the United Provinces. Wherein is contained A Particular
account of the Hague and all the Principal Cities and Towns of the
Republiek, with their Buildings. Curiosities etc. Printed for the author
and to be Got at Leiden. By Cornells de Pecker. 1765. Zie no. 25
scheen. Van het stadhuis te ’s-Gravenhage sprekende,
zegt de auteur o.a. het volgende This building, which
„is but just finished is plain and handsome but it
„differs in nothing from a private house, which seems
„to be an error in the architect. All publick Edifices
„and especially a Town house, ought to be distin
guished in some manner and that sufficiently strong
„from the Houses of particulars, in order to attract the
„Regard of the Publick.
„And this may be done without overcharging the
„walls with sculptures. Frescos, Anagrams and other
„Impertinences. At Top indeed there is one image; 2)
„but it escapes the Eye of the Passenger, who can
„take this building only for the house of a rich Citizen.”
verleend.
